mp4, 15 min, 3.6 mB Teaches: where to go from here The Spelling Lessons are now online in iPod format. They are a great review of the Phonics Lessons. The use of Unified Pronouncing Print (UPP) is another way to continue improving your reading, spelling, and pronunciation abilities. Another good resource for learning how to sound out multi-syllabic words is Webster's Blue Backed Speller, or The American Spelling Book, free online from Don Potter's Education Page. It is especially useful for figuring out which vowel sounds will "mush" to the schwa sound of uh as it lists words by accent, and unaccented syllables are more likely to mush to the schwa sound. As a bonus, it can also be used for spelling practice. You can also find books divided into syllables based on the rules outlined in Webster's Speller. These books are helpful for both beginning and remedial students. You can also work on the nonsense words on the language lessons page. A final review that also helps overcome the guessing habit of looking at words by their shape is to work through the program on the Syllables Spell Success page. You can read and spell just a few words of each type, doing the entire section in areas where your student needs more work. It also inludes videos on 40L's YouTube page. | |
